Jones Is Named To Lead City Campus

She Assumes Langston Position on July 1

LANGSTON—A vice president of the school has been named to be the leader of Langston University at Oklahoma City.

Mautra Staley Jones has been serving as vice president of institutional advancement and external affairs at Langston’s main campus.

Her appointment to lead the LU at Oklahoma City campus was effective July 1.

It could not be determined if Mrs. Jones will retain her position as vice president of institutional advancement and external affairs.

Alice Strong Simmons, who led the Oklahoma City campus, has retired.

Dr. Kent J. Smith, president of Langston, made the appointment of Mrs. Jones.

“Mautra Jones is an incredible talent and respected professional, who has a record of accomplishment in development and external relations,” said Dr. Smith at the time of her appointment as vice president of institutional advancement.

“Given her expertise, I have every confidence that she will contribute significantly to the betterment of our campus community,” the university president said at the time.

Mrs. Jones has been actively engaged in corporate, non-profit and education administration for more than a decade, a statement released by the university said the time.

The statement also said she had consulted with countless non-profit and educational organizations and institutions in California, Ohio and Oklahoma.

Prior to being named Vice President at Langston, Mrs. Jones was director of White Fields, a non-profit organization.

Mrs. Jones has served as a commissioner with the Oklahoma Merit Protection Commission and as a member of the Oklahoma Education Standards Steering Committee.

She has been or is a member of the boards of directors of the Rotary Club of Downtown Oklahoma City, the Metro Tech Foundation and the Black Liberated Arts Center.

Mrs. Jones is a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma City.

A native Oklahoman, the newly-named leader of the Langston at Oklahoma City campus graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma and received a master of business administration degree.
